How Can You Get More Automatic Than Automatic?
Anyone who has cut metal for any length of time should be able to readily explain the differences between the three common types of bandsaws: a manual saw needs an operator to raise the head back up by hand after each cut (and sometimes to help it descend if gravity alone doesn’t do the trick); a semi-automatic bandsaw will cut through a workpiece and raise the head back up, waiting for the operator to load the next segment; an automatic bandsaw will make the cut, raise the head, automatically feed material into place, and then keep repeating the process as programming.
So, what the heck is a super-automatic bandsaw? Does it wash your car for you between cutting cycles? Does it slip into the back room put on a mask and cape after hours and go out fighting metalworking-related crime? If automatic saws already do everything for an operator during a cutting procedure, just how exactly can a bandsaw go beyond that?
Enter the S-GENIUS™ series from Revolution Machine Tools. These bandsaws take the inherent no-brainer operation of the average automatic bandsaw and raise it to a level. The “genius” of S-GENIUS™ saws is that they understand why you cut all material types differently and then they self-adjust to provide the cleanest cut possible. This smart cutting system controls a servo down feed and a servo infeed for the tightest tolerances and repeatability on the market.
An S-GENIUS™ super-automatic bandsaw will determine the optimal parameters for the operation based on the type of material, the size of the workpiece, and even the blade that is being used, then make the cut in the most efficient way. For example, the automatic controls and sensors on one of these saws will cause the blade to speed up or slow down depending on what is being cut (which can also extend the life expectancy of your blades by up to an additional 50%).
S-GENIUS™ CS 16-16 Bandsaw Specs and Features
The standard bandsaw in RMT’s S-GENIUS™ series is their 16″ model, the S-GENIUS™ CS 16-16 (which technically can cut up to 16.5″ by 16.5″ square workpieces or 16.5″ rounds). This dual-column saw features variable cutting speeds, from 49 to 394 feet per minute, and is optimized to work with carbide and bimetal blades. It takes a 226″ x 1.6″ blade (5750 x 41mm).
The S-GENIUS™ CS 16-16 sports a 10 HP main motor (optionally expandable to 20 HP), along with a 1.5 HP hydraulic motor, a 0.27 HP coolant motor, a 0.34 HP chip conveyor motor, a 2 HP servo motor, and a 2 HP bow lifting motor. The machine weighs 7275 lbs. and is 113″ long by 78″ wide and stands 83″ tall.
With its fully automatic servo feeding and cutting system, the S-GENIUS™ CS 16-16 is designed to maximize the high-volume cutting of pipes, profiles, and heavy metal stock, making it ideal for steel production, forging mills, machine manufacturing, steel service centers, and the automotive industry.
The saw includes a servo motor-driven feeding vice with a 27″ stroke (optionally expandable up to a 120″ stroke) that feeds the material for each cut with a tolerance of +/- 0.004″. It has a guide arm that travels on a linear guideway and moves in synchronization with the vice. The saw can also be upgraded with a hydraulic top clamp to help secure bundles from four sides, or replaced with a hexagonal vise, making it ideal for tube bundle cutting.
The smart cutting system of this super-automatic bandsaw is controlled by its Omron CNC cutting program, which is accessed via a user-friendly touchscreen control panel. The operator can save up to 50 different cutting-length steps in 100 different programs. The software permits changes in cutting lengths to be programmed while it is operating and allows the input of manual cutting parameters.

- A heavy-duty planetary gearbox which has a high-power density for high efficiency and works at high torques.
- A deflection sensor to detect a failing blade.
- A proximity switch for sensing blade slippage

- An optical saw height adjustment.

- A motorized swarf brush for blade cleaning.

The S-GENIUS™ CS 16-16 bandsaw can also be upgraded to include a micro spray coolant, useful for cutting tubes and thin-walled profiles, or a DropsA air/oil clean lubrication system for extremely high performance and near-dry processing of tubes and solids.
For even larger jobs, RMT offers the 20 HP S-GENIUS™ CS 22-23 CNC bandsaw that has a straight cutting capacity of 22.4″ by 23.6″.
